The practice in Oakwood has now been open since March 1999, over which time a loyal customer base has been achieved through attention to detail and excellence in service and treatment.
In June of 2006, the practice was refitted with an entirely new façade and reception area. These improvements also include better lighting and new displays for our large number of standard and designer frames. Also in the practice is the new retinal scanning facility, which compliments nicely the full range of services that we offer including eye examination, contact lenses, sports vision and laser eye surgery consultation.
Simon Falk BSc (hons) MCOptom FBDO
Simon Falk qualified as an Optometrist in 1994. Since qualifying he has worked in both the multiple and independent sector. He is a senior examiner with ABDO and Optometrist to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Tykes. Julie Edison BSc (hons) FBDO CL
Julie graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1997. She then spent 5 years with a large multiple optician, gaining her dispensing optician qualification and managing a number of city centre branches.
Julie joined Simon Falk’s Headingley practice in 2002 to become more contact lens advanced and achieved her qualification a year later. After joining Oakwood in January 2006, she has become an important part of the team. Julie sees a varied range of contact lens patients and is particularly interested in the fitting of more complex patients, including children and varifocal lenses.
Denise Collier BSc MCOptom FBDO
Denise, like myself, qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1993 and then as an Optometrist in 1997. Since qualifying she has split her working week between independent practice (13 years at Kathryn Stott Opticians in Yeadon) and at the eye department at St James’s.
She brings with her speciality in Glaucoma detection and management, Paediatric Optometry, Low Vision and Specialist Contact lens fitting. She is also about to undertake independent prescribing.
There is no doubt that with Denise’s experience our clinical skills will be enhanced.
Denise will be available 2 days a week at Oakwood.
Yvonne Waring
Yvonne has lived and worked in the Oakwood area for 25 years and joined Simon soon after the opening of the Oakwood practice in April 1999.
Having previously worked in the textiles industry, Yvonne enjoys running the reception desk and takes pride in ensuring a friendly and individual service.
Laura Crowther BSc
I welcome Laura back to the fold. She was my Saturday girl at Headingley, some moons ago. Laura has just completed her degree, but decided she wanted a career ladder to follow. She has taken the position of trainee dispensing optician. She will attend Bradford College on a part time basis and be supervised by myself and Julie.
Rebecca Green FBDO
Rebecca is the newest member of the team in Oakwood joining us in Jan 2010. She has recently graduated as a dispensing optician following 3 years at Bradford College. She started to work in optics in 2005, working for a large multiple group as practice supervisor.
Rebecca enjoys spending time with our customers and sharing her knowledge of optics to ensure our patients leave with the perfect frames and lenses for their specific needs.
