At Simon Falk Eyecare, we are incredibly proud to be sponsoring Megan as she takes on an extraordinary challenge this summer — climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain.
Megan, along with her whole family, has been part of the Simon Falk Eyecare community for many years. Supporting patients beyond the consulting room is something we truly believe in, so when we heard about Megan’s inspiring fundraising mission, we knew we wanted to get behind her.
Megan is undertaking this six-day Kilimanjaro expedition to raise funds for Dig Deep, an award-winning international development charity working to secure clean water, safe sanitation, and good hygiene for the one million people living in Bomet County, Kenya.
For many of us, turning on the tap is something we do without a second thought. However, in parts of Bomet County, access to clean water and safe sanitation remains out of reach for the majority of families. Currently, two out of three people do not have reliable access to these basic essentials.
This lack of clean water contributes to waterborne diseases that remain one of the leading causes of death in children under five. Beyond the immediate health risks, families also face wider challenges. Time lost through illness and the long daily journeys required to collect water often mean children miss school and parents lose valuable income. The burden of this responsibility falls most heavily on women and girls.
Dig Deep works in partnership with local communities, businesses and the Kenyan government to create sustainable solutions. Their goal is simple but powerful — to ensure every child and their family in Bomet County has lasting access to clean water, safe sanitation and good hygiene.
Megan has set herself an overall fundraising target of £2,990. Half of the funds raised will go directly towards transforming water and sanitation access in Bomet County, while the remaining 50% will help cover the costs of her Kilimanjaro expedition.
Taking on Kilimanjaro is no small feat. It requires months of preparation, determination, and courage — all for a cause that has the power to change lives.
