Discover the Cirrus HD-OCT by Zeiss which allows the early detection of glaucoma and macular degeneration by up to 5 years. The Zeiss OCT provides clear and detailed scans allowing us to diagnose and monitor conditions which might otherwise be missed. It is much more sensitive for detecting signs of early glaucoma as it is able to detect changes to the nerve fibre layer compared to a visual field test. Over time the scans can allow us to compare and if a change is highlighted we can determined whether a medical referral is necessary.
OCT is recommended for everyone over 50 as a screening tool. It never hurts to be given the all-clear!
It is particularly advised for people with a family history of glaucoma or macula degeneration, or those with diabetes or hypertension and for those noticing any unusual change in their vision.
