What Are Punctum Plugs?

Punctum plugs are tiny, biocompatible devices that are gently inserted into the tear ducts (called puncta) of your eyelids. Their purpose is to block tear drainage, allowing your natural tears to stay on the eye surface longer—providing better hydration and long-term relief from dryness.

How Do They Work?

Your tears normally drain away through small openings in the inner corners of your eyelids. When these openings are partially or fully blocked with punctum plugs:

• Tears remain on the surface of the eye longer, improving lubrication.
• Eye moisture increases naturally, reducing the need for artificial tears.

Types of Punctum Plugs

We offer different types depending on your needs:

• Temporary (dissolvable) plugs – Often used to test effectiveness or after surgery. These dissolve on their own over time.
